Chico Cabaret opened it's doors on January 19th, 2001. We felt honored to
get the very best that Chico has to offer with many well-known residents,
actors, business owners and city leaders working together to help us create
our new home. Since then, we have made enormous improvements to the inside.
Sitting around a table with frriends and family or having the elbow-space
to talk, relax and have a drink or dessert while waiting for our uproarious
musicals or side-splitting comedies to begin makes the Chico Cabaret the most
unique theatre environment North of Sacramento.
ACT is a newly formed group of local theatre enthusiasts
whose primary goal is to promote live theatre of all kinds--from traditional
musicals and children's theatre to cutting-edge drama--throughout the Chico
area. ACT member theatres are committed to encouraging theatre goers to experience
the wide array of theatre that Chico has to offer, to pooling resources whenever
possible, and in general to promoting a sense of good will and common community
among participating theatres and their audiences.
Member theatres include:
Blue Room Theatre
The Blue Room Theatre was started by a group of theatre artists who went by
the name of The Cosmic Travel Agency. The five actors did children's puppet
shows in libraries, schools and cafes. After performing their first full length
play, Out in the World, for packed houses at a local jazz club, they decided
to find a permanent space which turned out to be an abandoned Masonic Temple
located above Collier's Hardware in downtown Chico which was christened "The
Blue Room."
Chico Theater Company (CTC) produces family oriented shows with a heavy emphasis on musical theater. Our goal is to get people to stay in this area and enjoy the wonderful local theater that the Chico area offers. We also want to foster and grow an interest in the performing arts through our youth theater program, Chico Children's Theater Company (CCTC).
Ensemble Theatre Company (Shakespeare in the Park)
Theatre on the Ridge is located in the foothill community of Paradise, Calif., about 10 miles east of Chico.
CSU, Chico Department of Theatre Arts Classroom experiences are coordinated with and supplemented by the department's extensive program of eight to ten annual productions. These productions include two major musicals and an opera (in conjunction with the Music Department), a fall dance concert, an evening of student directed one-acts, and a selection of comedies and dramas that cover the spectrum of historical periods, genres and production styles.
If you choose to come to our opening night, you will be treated to a
champagne reception as well as get a chance to meet the
actors after the show.
